About The Site:
The site is web-hosted by Earthlink. I can't say how it compares to other web-hosting
companies, however if you want to hear some of what the promotional material
won't tell you, send an e-mail.
At first, the web pages were created using Corel WebDesigner -- a long
discontinued product. It was so old, in fact, it did not support such things as
frames which are far from cutting edge today. In order to reduce the
redundancy of top and left sections on each page, I started implementing frames
using Word (from the Evil Empire). While Microsoft makes part of the
process annoying, it seems to do the job well enough considering it isn’t
specifically a web page designer.
There is an area at the upper right of each page where an ad could be placed.
So far, filling that spot has not been a priority. While not opposed to making
a little money along the way, that's not the primary objective of the site. As
a result, ads for ring-tones, Dr. Who decoder rings, swords and sorcery books,
etc. are not encouraged. Ads for serious SF or science would be welcomed.
The e-mail address on the web pages is in a graphics file. This is done to
avoid programs that read web pages to find e-mail addresses to be added to spam
lists. If for any reason you can't read the address in these graphics, the e-mail
address begins with the name: thlej. To repeat, the name is spelled: t h l e j.
After the name put @hardsf.org
Once I’ve finished converting all the pages in the site to use frames, I will make a “no frames” version for those who need that. That version will use altered versions of the navigation documents used in the left-hand frames. Those will be altered to point to the article documents used in the right-hand frames.
